The mission of the First Presbyterian Church

is to make disciples for Jesus Christ, to share the Gospel, and to equip the Saints for the work of the church.

Canisteo First
Presbyterian Church

Welcome friends, neighbors, visitors,  curious folk and those who already know us.  You are all welcome as Christ would welcome you.  We are a very accepting, open and inclusive congregation.  Many of us come from different denominations, even different towns,  and we have all found a home here.  We are all part of the family of God.  We hope you enjoy being part of our church family too.

Because we are the oldest Christian community in Canisteo, founded in 1852, our church looks very traditional.   But our interests and activities are very much today!  Look around our website.  Even better come and visit us on Sunday.  Church is at 11:00 AM except in the summer when it starts at 10:00 AM.   We are an active force in our Community and are still growing and offering important services.

The Norman Harvey Endowment Fund

Canisteo-Greenwood High School can be very proud of its graduating class this year. The Scholarship Committee had a very hard time picking winners because they were all excellent candidates. They all had qualifying credentials in academics, school and community activities but these five seemed to have an altruistic attitude that embodied the spirit of this scholarship.

On July 23, the 2017 Norman Harvey Scholarship winners were acknowledged during worship service and at a coffee hour to honor them was held afterwards. This year five seniors were given scholarships toward their continuing education. Those receiving them were:
Erin Congdon who was Valedictorian and will be attending Alfred State majoring in Engineering Science, has plans to attend Alfred University from there to major in Ceramic Engineering. She hopes in the future to make the world a cleaner and safer place. Alicia Cline was Salutatorian and plans to attend Houghton College majoring in communications and sees herself becoming an event planner. Nathan Payne will be attending Alfred College majoring in Heavy Equipment: Truck and Diesel Repair. He was recognized for helping out at his grandfather's farm and trailer business in addition to academic achievements and he is also active in community service. Emma Juisto is will be majoring in Nursing at Alfred State in the fall and wants to help people in need. Vanessa Jacobs is enrolled for the fall in Graphic and Media Design at Alfred State to discover new ways to use her skills to help people communicate.

Congratulations to all of these good young people.
