is to make disciples for Jesus Christ, to share the Gospel, and to equip the Saints for the work of the church.
Canisteo First Presbyterian Church
Welcome friends, neighbors, visitors, curious folk and those who already know us. You are all welcome as Christ would welcome you. We are a very accepting, open and inclusive congregation. Many of us come from different denominations, even different towns, and we have all found a home here. We are all part of the family of God. We hope you enjoy being part of our church family too.
Because we are the oldest Christian community in Canisteo, founded in 1852, our church looks very traditional. But our interests and activities are very much today! Look around our website. Even better come and visit us on Sunday. Church is at 11:00 AM except in the summer when it starts at 10:00 AM. We are an active force in our Community and are still growing and offering important services.
Introduction of Pastor Michelle Serra Welcome Pastor Michelle
On February 4, Pastor Michelle preached her first sermon as pastoral leader of our congregation. She received a warm First Pres greeting and we all learned more about her (favorite color= purple, husband's name= Doug) during a later coffee hour but the PNC would like you to know more. Michelle Kae Ormsby Serra grew up around Almond, NY and now lives in Belmont. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and History from Keuka College and a Master's Degree in Social Studies Education from Alfred University. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Northeastern Seminary which is an independent seminary on campus at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester. Educated and experienced as the former Lay Interim Pastor of Almond Union Churches and as a former Social Studies teacher and Manager of an afterschool program with ACCORD in Belmont we believe she had the leadership skill to lead us into the future. Michelle has a background in the Baptist Church, Almond Union is a Union of both Baptist and Presbyterian parishioners. Her seminary program will make her eligible for ordination in any Christian denomination. Her "official" mentor is the Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Hornell, Katherine Griffis, who is her good friend. Michelle is open to all kinds of people, churched and unchurched. She had Pastoral visitation experience. She has demonstrated she is open to new ideas and new traditions. She has answered a personal calling from God to be his trained minister. We are sure it is provident that we can have her wisdom and enthusiasm as our pastor as she completes her seminary education.
